There’s nothing like hearing a story first thing in the morning to waken one’s spirit. Today’s Junior School assembly was hijacked by three staff reading aloud stories about dragons. A dragon drawing competition was announced, the 50 hidden Golden Dragon tickets in the library were announced and Book Week was well and truly kicked off.
Rob Parkinson – dragon story-teller extraordinaire then completed workshops with every year group, combining songs, poems, interactive music and stories and yet more stories. There were stories from Ghana, West Sussex, Rhodes, Japan, Northumberland, Northern Ireland and more. The boys were transfixed, as some stories appeared fantastical, others full of half-truths and others just from part of his childhood and thirty years of story-telling and song-writing. A wonderful memorable day for all.
All Junior School teachers have got behind Book Week – favourite moment of the day was seeing Ms Ratazzi (yr 4) reading her “Dragon book for Hijack” aloud to her class, for 5 minutes while her class patiently waited on the staircase for the storyteller to set up.
